Education and Training
Dr. Smith graduated with High Honors with a degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois. During his undergraduate education he spent a year in Germany performing materials science research at the Helmholz Center in Berlin. Dr. Smith was then accepted into dental school at UIC where he graduated in the top of his class. While in dental school, he founded the Dental Charity Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization which focused on improving oral health literacy for at-risk children. He received the American College of Dentists Outstanding Student Leader Award, and was elected to membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. After graduating he was accepted into the United States Air Force Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency and entered into military service at Travis Air Force Base, California.

Clinical Practice
After completion of his residency Dr. Smith was assigned to Joint Base Andrews outside of Washington D.C. where he eventually served as the chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. During the pandemic he was chosen to run the COVID testing and vaccination team for the White House, for which he was awarded a Joint Service Commendation Medal. He completed his service in Maryland and separated from the military, returning to the Chicago area and joining NSCOFS.
Dr. Smith lectures on immediate implant placement and achieving long-term success for dental implants. His professional passions include rehabilitation of complex cases with dental implants, comfortable in-office anesthesia, laser skin rejuvenation, and oral health literacy. His personal interests include sailing, skiing, and guitar. Dr. Smith is very much a family man – he and his wife Krystin have four children and love spending time outdoors and on the water.
