Dr. Yost Smith

Known to patients as “Dr. Yost,” Dr. Smith combines a friendly, approachable manner with advanced surgical expertise and a passion for achieving long-term, natural results. He is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is highly regarded for his skill in both routine and complex procedures.

Beyond the Practice

Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys sailing, skiing, and playing guitar. He and his wife, Krystin, have four children and love spending time outdoors and on the water together.

Education & Training

Dr. Smith graduated with High Honors in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois, including a year of research at the Helmholtz Center in Berlin, Germany. He went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, graduating at the top of his class. While in dental school, he founded the Dental Charity Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving oral health literacy for at-risk children. He was recognized with the American College of Dentists Outstanding Student Leader Award and elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.

Following dental school, Dr. Smith was accepted into the United States Air Force Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency and entered into military service at Travis Air Force Base, California.

Clinical Practice

Dr. Smith went on to serve at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C., where he became Chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was selected to lead the White House COVID testing and vaccination team, for which he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. After completing his military service, he returned home to the Chicago area to join NorthShore Center for Oral and Facial Surgery.

Today, Dr. Smith lectures on immediate implant placement and long-term implant success. His clinical interests include complex implant rehabilitation, in-office anesthesia, and facial laser rejuvenation. A passionate advocate for oral health literacy, he continues to promote education in his field.
